Mississauga, Ontario:
RotoPrecision Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario would like to
acknowledge the recent passing of Philip B. French on
April 12, 2007 at the Rosedale Retirement Centre in
Brockville, Ontario.
As an original founder of RotoPrecision Inc., Philip
French was a salesman at heart and a true pioneer within
the Canadian bearing and distribution industries.
Following his graduation from Mechanical Engineering at
McGill University in 1934, Phil began his career as a
Sales Engineer at SKF (Canada) Ltd. He covered an
extensive sales territory in which he visited virtually
every engineering company in Montreal by streetcar and
most of the mines, shipyards and mills from Newfoundland
to Manitoba by train (long before the days of the
company car). He even sold the bearings and rode in
Armand Bombardier’s first snowmobile back in the 1930s.
In 1958, Philip created Philip French Sales. The
enterprise was extremely successful from the outset and
expanded quickly to locations across Canada including
Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. In 1980, the company
formally changed its name to RotoPrecision Inc. and has
continued to grow both nationally and globally through
expansion and strategic acquisitions. The company will
celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2008.
Philip served as President of RotoPrecision for many
years until his retirement in 1972 and then remained as
an active advisor following that time. He is predeceased
by his wife Marian and survived by his three children
Michael, Susan and Trish.
